The fifteen-syllable poetic text of the Mathema Πάθος σου βλέπων σταυρικόν, was known to us from the research of Sophronios Efstratiadis and Gregorios Stathis. Our musicological interest was particularly focused on it during the supervision of the postgraduate thesis of Polycarpos Tympas, who used (with verbal suggestion of Gregorios Anastasios) additional relevant testimony of Gregorios Stathis, for its existing exegesis made by Chourmouzios Chartophylax. On the basis of this exegesed version, the Mathema in question, originally composed by the great Maestor Ioannis Koukouzeles, was included in the repertoire of the choir of chanters “The Maestors of the Psaltic Art” and was systematically studied from its performative perspective. Moreover, utilizing the continuous personal research for the preparation of an analytical catalogue of the musical manuscripts of the collection of Panagiotis Gritsanis, taking into account the meanwhile announced homonymous work of Despina Loukidou, the same Mathema was approached with a more analytical and musicological approach and on the basis of the Codex No. 7 of Gritsanis’s collection, where it is also anthologised in its original notational formulation.

The comments included in the present paper record original observations on the poetic and musical text of this interesting composition.
